3 Cloud Computing Predictions For 2013

2 min read

Cloud computing, once new, is now the center of attention in the IT world. Gartner, a renowned IT research and advisory firm suggests that cloud computing has moved beyond the peak of inflated expectations, almost reaching the point of success.

More and more people and businesses are using cloud applications—by using Gmail and Facebook, etc., we have entered into the cloud system. Accounting, expense reporting, email and other functions are now done by SaaS applications in many organizations.

This implies that cloud computing is dominating the market and by 2013, it is predicted that it will spread like a virus as enterprises are looking forward to make use of its inherent benefits.

1. IT Will Switch to the Cloud for Analyzing and Installing Latest Technologies

IT organizations will make one of their goals to eliminate old, and get along with the new. The sole purpose of IT is to create new technologies, however, existing technologies waste most of their time in maintaining current mechanisms, i.e. nearly 80 per cent of IT budgets, are dedicated in sustaining present systems.

By shifting facilitations like ERP, CRM, help desk and PBX to the cloud, IT companies will shed off workload and focus on other productive activities.

2. Cloud Shall Not Remain an Alternative Work Setting Anymore

Cloud, along with social and mobile networks will change the traditional working ways and the ultimate war between 24/7 vs. 9 to 5 working hours will start. This is because cloud will make it possible to stay connected and work, anytime.

Traditionally, offices are the workhouses where employees come at fixed timings and work on their defined tasks, all day. The stress to be ‘on-time’ is a central part of this setup. Companies hire buildings, buy dry cleaning services, car washing facilities and meals to motivate its staff for more work.

But with cloud, this setup will end soon. Businesses have begun to realize that everyone doesn’t need to sit in one place to work. Moreover, an obvious benefit of this change would be huge savings in terms of real estate expenditure – the need of offices would vanish.

Bosses wouldn’t panic in their offices, waiting for work while the employees would feel free with more working hours with this new business idea. Better productivity and efficient work force shall be witnessed, immediately after applying this 24/7 work setup.

3. Businesses Will Finally Accept Public Cloud

Though there are doubts about public cloud, but generally, cloud computing is accepted. With an increasing use of public cloud, companies are likely to adopt it in 2013. The recent launch of CloudStack and OpenStack has added more credibility to public clouds—they are the most upgraded versions in this category.

Like the Red Hat has advertised and legalized Linux as secure platforms for developers, now, stewards will do same in the open cloud market inviting people to use it for their businesses, without any security issues.

Be it private, public or personal cloud, 2013 will definitely witness cloud computing becoming an integral part of Information Technology.
