Adulting 101: The 5 Apps You Need

3 min read

Adult life can be a struggle – juggling work commitments with a social life, gym workouts and housework can seem almost impossible. Fear not, technology is here to save the day. If you feel there just isn’t enough hours in the day, then there are apps available that can help reduce the stresses of everyday life. Take a deep breath and consider the following:

  1. Hive

Is there anything better than walking into a warm, cosy house on a cold, wintry night after a long day at work? But when you are hit by the cold because you have forgotten to set the timer on the boiler, you might want to kick yourself. Invest in Hive Active Heating and you can control your heating anywhere and everywhere, straight from the app on your phone.

You’ll need to install a wireless thermostat, hub and receiver but once you do, you can easily switch your heating on and off, making sure you are met with a warm, cosy feeling when you walk through the door.

Working both ways, if you forget to switch the heating off, you can do that at your office desk, meaning you can save money and energy throughout the year.

  1. Evernote Scannable

Some people are blessed with brilliant organisational skills, whilst others find themselves buried under a mountain of papers and important documents. Evernote Scannable is the app that organises it all for you – simply scan your documents with your smartphone camera, and it will create an organised digital bank of information that is always at hand.

You will no longer have to search through hundreds of papers to find what you need. Even better, scan business cards and the app will automatically turn the details into a contact on your device while also collecting further information from sources like LinkedIn. Smart, huh?

  1. Out of Milk

Running a full household can be tough, especially if you live with others. When it comes to the grocery shop, who buys what? It can be difficult to organise shopping to prevent ending up with enough bread and eggs to feed the entire street. The Out of Milk app offers a solution. Say goodbye to food shopping mishaps!

The app, available for Android smartphones, provides a platform for household members to create shopping lists for their housemates to see. They can add items to the list, which is updated almost instantly, and tick off items which have been bought. You’ll never end up with eight pints of milk and three loafs of bread again.

  1. True Potential Investor

In an ideal world, we would all like to have a chunky amount of money ready for a rainy day – but in reality, with bills, mortgages and other direct debits, the money we put aside can dwindle away. The True Potential Investor app provides a platform to help you manage your investments better.

The self-directed investment service allows you to set investment goals, work out how much you’ll need to put away to achieve it and invest your cash direct from the app. You can select from a range of investment portfolios with differing levels of risk to help you meet your financial goal*.

*With investing, your capital is at risk. Investments can fluctuate in value and you may get back less than you invest. Tax rules can change at any time.

  1. Seven Minute Workout

Are you struggling to find time to fit in a workout at your gym? Are you paying a fortune for your membership and not using it? Download the 7 Minute Workout app and struggle no more. The app offers workouts that are just seven minutes long and can be done from the comfort of your own home.

Each workout is structured as high intensity circuit training – a combination of 12 exercises to be completed in 30-second intervals with 10-second breaks. It’s a great flexible approach to exercise.
